Place a small hygrometer-thermometer inside the humidor. Cigar Advisor recommends this as the best way to keep track of the true inner temperature of your humidor.
Store the humidor in a dark area that is both dry and cool. Sunlight exposure can negatively impact the cigars inside the humidor and too much warmth can ruin the cigars.
Check the hygrometer-thermometer on a regular basis or as often as you open the humidor. Cigar Aficionado recommends that humidors should normally have a internal humidity around 70 to 75 percent, with the temperature at 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Remove cigars from the humidor around once a month to check for quality. Place the cigars on a white sheet of paper and examine them for damp spots (excess humidification) or tobacco worms. Discard any cigars that are not usable.
Place cigars back in humidor and continue to maintain them until ready to use.
